The proper way to control Microsoft costs in 2025
Back in 2022, negotiations were much more laid-back. We had the time to look at on-prem licenses, clean things up, and enter Microsoft renewals with a plan.
Today, that time is gone. Procurement teams are thrown into high-stakes negotiations without preparation. The market moved fast. Cloud spend exploded. Licensing models changed mid-contract.
Microsoft 365 costs keep growing. Power BI became an Azure service—often at double the price. SQL Server discounts? Only if you move to their preferred setup in Azure.
These changes aren’t always visible. Cloud bills are made of tiny transactions—millions of them. Like handing your five-year-old £100 and asking them to manage a weekly food budget. The money’s gone before you know it.
We’ve seen clients go from £9 million a year to £14 million. They didn’t change much. Microsoft did.
