Licensing Virtual Machines that are NOT Running | Microsoft Licensing
Do you have to include Virtual Machines that are not running when you calculate Microsoft Licensing requirements? Let's look it up in the Microsoft Product Terms.
Community wisdom I received after publishing this video:
- It's not as simple as I say in this video.
- The language varies in various parts of Product Terms and makes it ambiguous.
- It contradicts Disaster Recovery rights, sort of.
- If the VM was powered off in the last 90 days, it's still consuming a licence.
Bottom line: be vigilant and cautious and keep your VM estate tidy.
