Microsoft Cloud & Licensing Update October 2023
🟡 Finally, Microsoft 365 without Teams in Europe
🟡 CoPilot will not be available to small businesses
🟡 No more Azure Active Directory
🟡 Total mess with System Center and ESU via CSP
Microsoft has rebranded Azure Active Directory to "Entra ID," which means you'll see references to Entra ID instead of Azure Active Directory in various documents and reports. It's important to note that this is just a rename; the product itself remains unchanged.
Microsoft is also introducing a promise to indemnify users against copyright claims resulting from using Co-pilot. While they believe the risk is low, Microsoft is committing to legal protection if such claims arise.
One significant change is the introduction of European Microsoft 365 plans without Teams, starting from October 1st. If you don't need Teams, you'll benefit from a reduced price of two EUR per user per month. However, if you later decide to add Teams, it will cost five euros per user per month.
Co-pilot for Microsoft 365 is being made available to Enterprise clients with a minimum requirement of 300 licenses. It's not available through CSP and is limited to Microsoft Enterprise agreements and MCA-E, which is similar to CSP but directly from Microsoft.
There's uncertainty regarding extended security updates (ESUs) through CSP providers. ESUs are now on the CSP price list. It's also yet unclear whether you can use them with providers like Amazon and Google.
Microsoft Arc raises concerns about the amount of metadata it sends to Microsoft, which some users find intrusive. However, it's necessary for accessing benefits like ESUs.
