SAMexpert Microsoft Licensing Experts
Virtualisation is excellent, and I am a strong proponent of it. Licensing virtual servers, though, is tricky. Please don't assume that you may take a licence from a former physical server and assign it to its virtual replica. It's not that simple. Four examples covered:

- Oracle Database in VMware (avoid!)
- Windows Server
- SQL Server (licensing may benefit from virtualisation, but you may need SA)
- Windows 10 (do not assign licences to VMs, there is no need)
